Pushing Recordset into MSRS
Can we push an ADO recordset into MSRS (instead of MSRS pulling the data) to
create a separation between the report and the underlying data source? This
would help us to swap the data source without changing the reports.
Thanks,Hi,
In a short term you can create a custom dataset extension to get your ADO
recordset and "bind" it to the report. Accidentally, I have developed one
(http://www.gotdotnet.com/Community/UserSamples/Details.aspx?SampleGuid=B846
8707-56EF-4864-AC51-D83FC3273FE5 ). It allows you get an ADO.NET dataset
from somewhere (e.g. you BLL), pass it to the report as a report parameter
and expose it as a RS dataset. It also suports reporting off persisted as
XML files datasets.
In a long run, the next version of RS will include WinForm and ASP.NET
controls which will work in both connected and disconnected mode. The later
will support binding to ADO.NET datasets.

Hope this helps.

Pushing IMAGE from SQL CE onto SQL Server 2000
Hello!
We are trying to use RDA to Push an image field onto SQL Server 2000 from a mobile device, but are having problems. Does anyone have any experience with this? If so, maybe some sample code would be very much appreciated. (We have been struggling with this for a while).
byte[] imagearray = null;
string imagestring = "";
try
{
imagearray = (byte[])SQLCEDr.GetValue(SQLCEDr.GetOrdinal("CapturedImage"));
imagestring = System.Text.Encoding.Default.GetString(imagearray, 0, (imagearray.Length - 1));
}
catch (Exception ex)
{
MessageBox.Show(ex.Message);
}
sParameters = "'" + imagestring + "'" ;
try
{
rda.SubmitSql("EXEC sp_HH_WorkOrder_SuppliesUsed " + sParameters,scon);
}
Thanks,
Andy
Here’s the problem:
imagestring = System.Text.Encoding.Default.GetString(imagearray, 0, (imagearray.Length - 1));
This line would be valid for an array which contains text in the default encoding. But it contains binary image data which would be treated as text, corrupted and lost.
To insert/retrieve binary data you have to use parameterized query. In fact, you should use parameterized queries for everything - would save you lot of troubles with localization (e.g. infamous 10/25/2006 vs. 25.10.2006) and formatting not to mention more secure and better performing code. If you don't know how to use parameters, please look it up on MSDN or search this forum as it's been answered before.
Pushing Data to Another SQL Server
I have a production SQL2000 in Location A with Database A. I have another SQL2000 in Location B. I want to copy Database A to Location B. Any changes in Database A in Location A gets pushed to Location B.
Can I do this in 2000? TIAyes you can|||yes you can
Are you sure?
:D|||Are you sure?

Absolutely ... the method of last resort would be sneakernet ... but I would try other M$oft methods built into SQL Server first.
Unless he meant seven years ago ... then I would have to say probably not.

Pushing data from Excel to a SQL server
Is it possible to feed a SQL server with data from an Excel sheet? If so -
how?
Thanks in advance,
Christian DavidssonHi,
DTS (Data transformation service) will be the easiest option to load data
from Excel file to SQL server table.
Thanks

linked server.

Pushing a publication for just one subscriber?
We're having to set up a new subscriber for several publications. From
what we remember, the last time we added a subscriber, running the
snapshot agent caused every subscriber (not just the new one) to get a
brand new copy of the table. This would take a considerable amount of
time, as some of the subscribers are on slow connections. Is there a
trick to just push the subscription to the one new subscriber? Many
thanks.
Im guessing what happened is someone clicked the "reinitialize all
subscriptions option" which would cause that behavior. Adding 1 subscription
will not do that.

Pushing 2000 merge publication to 2005 server
realize that Microsoft does not recommend this, but I haven't found anything
that says that it can not be done.
When I try to register the SQL 2005 server in my Enterprise Manager I get
"To connect to this server you must use SQL Server Management Studio or SQL
Server Management Objects (SMO)".
Any ideas on how I can get around this?
I have over 100 locations that I run merge replication with.
Thanks.
Gary
Connect to all servers through SSMS (SQL Server Management Studio).

|||I am trying to do the push from the SQL 2000 end, I do not have access to the
2005 server as it belongs to a vendor. Any other ways around this?
I did get around registering the server throught publishing the database (I
had the other party create an empty database on their end) but then when I
try to push the subscriotion it can not deliver the snapshot as it gets the
sp_Msupdatesysmergeartciles has too many arguments specified (8144 error).
Thanks,
Gary
