Puzzled by installation error.

I have tried installed several times the SQL Server 2005 Express (Standard or Advanced Services) on my XP SP2 system and all failed.

The error messages are all about the Secure Socket Layer certificate and provider, either cannot find, create valid SSL certificate or the authentication provider is not trust (actually I don't know any of this and where to find them). I am learning at home the SQL Server and not going to do a website. Why I need a SSL? Or if it is really necessary, how do I obtained one?

I installed IIS (supposedly 5.0 since I have XP SP2), is this related? How to install without IIS?

Or do I need a Server OS?

Turn of the SSL on the default website (where Reporting Service will be installed) and you should be able to install the whole thing easily. Afterwards you can turn on SSL again on the default website.

How to turn off SSL? In SQL Express setup or IIS setting in MMC?

My IIS setting has a default SSL port 440 but I cannot change it.

Publishing from Oracle to Sql Server 2005

HI guys,

Am trying to do the above. Managed to configured the distributer. However, while trying to configure my oracle publisher, it failed as follows:

====================================================
Creating Publication

- Creating Publication 'oraTest' (Success)
* SQL Server created publication 'oraTest'.

- Adding article 1 of 1 (Error)
Messages
* SQL Server Management Studio could not create article 'USERS'. (New Publication Wizard)

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
An exception occurred while executing a Transact-SQL statement or batch. (Microsoft.SqlServer.ConnectionInfo)

Objects cannot be published from the publisher login schema [SCOTT].
Changed database context to 'distribution'. (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 20802)
For help, click: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink?ProdName=Microsoft+SQL+Server&ProdVer=09.00.1187&EvtSrc=MSSQLServer&EvtID=20802&LinkId=20476

======================================================

As u guys can see, the publisher was created smoothly. It is the adding of the article, ie. my oracle table. I have ran the permission script as instructed in the BOL.

Wat am I missing? Can anyone pls help?

Thanks!

Cheers,
Kevin

Hi Kevin,

Can you please make sure that you have granted read permissions on the tables to the Oracle user account for managing Oracle publisher?|||Kevin -

The reason that you get this message is that you tried to publish tables that were in the schema account that you provided for replication. This is not supported since the replication account in Oracle is used strictly for supporting replication. As Mahesh mentions above, you just need to grant select on your tables (which shouldn't be owned by the replication user) to the replication user you created.

Publishing a report to the web error

Does anyone know how to fix this error?

-I've tried allowing anonymous access to the site.

-I've added it to my trusted sites.

Error: The request failed with HTTP status 401: Unauthorized.

Thanks.

I've got pass that error and now I am getting this error. I've added my windows account to the server but still keep getting this error. Any ideas?

  • An error has occurred during report processing.

  • Cannot create a connection to data source 'ODSTables'.

  • Login failed for user ''. The user is not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection.|||

The report you are using does not have the correct credentials to execute the query against your underlying data source. Check what credentials you have specified through the report properties tab in report manager or in management studio.

My guess is that the report is set to run with windows integrated credentials. This would be the credentials passed to the report server from IIS. For example, if you set anoynomous credentials on the virtual directory this would be the user the report server is using to connect to the data source. A quick fix would be to store the credentials for the report in the reportserver.

    |||I can view this just fine on my local report server. Why can't I view it through the website that I embedded it into? Doesn't make sense. I have my defalut.aspx page authenticated to windows, I have my windows account with permission on the reporting server and my local virtual directory to authenticate with windows integrated security. I also have my web browser to use current log in and password when visiting the site. Why is this so confusing to do?|||

    Hi mr4100

Maybe try this. I believe that integrated security only allows 1 hop to pass credentials. You might want to try one of the following.

    1) set the data sources property or the report to "Credentials stored securely in the report server" or "Credentials supplied by the user running the report"

    or

    2) set up a shared use a shared data source with "Credentials stored securely in the report server" or "Credentials supplied by the user running the report"

    Hi Mike-

This sort of error can be due to several things. I would start by checking your IIS settings on your Reports and ReportServer virtual directories. More information on setting virtual directory security settings can be found here:

  • Publisher keeps trying to connect to subscriber

    hi,

I manually changed a value in a table that makes part of the Replication and after that the sync failed on the procedure that updates the table on the subscriber.

So I manually re-start the sync. But for some reason it keeps trying to reconnect to the subscriber.
If I try to delete the subscriber to push it again, it locks.

I went to the Agent History, it showed the error "The process could not connect to Subscriber"
ODBC SQL SERVER DRIVER (number 08001)

I checked the SQL on the subscriber and it's running.
Does anybody has an idea of what I could do ?

Thanks !Before somebody try to answer, I got the replication running again.
I STOPPED the Sql Server at the subscriber and Re-started it.

    things looks fine now.

    Publication does not exist.

I have an error that states....
    DESCRIPTION:Replication-Replication Merge Subsystem: agent R99S-SQLA-
EDI-EDI Merge to 00-r00s-sqla-2 failed. Publication 'EDI Merge to 00'
    does not exist.
Due to the fact that there are other consultants setting up/deleteing
replication & do not know how this happened...nonetheless I need to
delete this replication. The publication is not in the tree list in
Local Publications, so I have no way of getting rid of it from there.
I have done some research & I am suppose to look in the
MSmerge_publications table in the distribution dB, but I do not have a
    distribution dB.
Any one have a clue about this one?
    Larry...
Looks like someone has created a publication from script that has spaces in
the name. You have to delete this publication, and then recreate it
    correctly.
You will probably have to edit the system tables to do this.

PSSDiag Failed to instantiate an XML DOM

Can anyone explain to me what I need to do to correct this?

I have ran the SAME PSSDiag install from the this particular server MANY times before.

All of a sudden, it now fails to start and I find this error, that is posted in teh subject line of the thread, in teh Windows Application Event Log.

If I need to install another app in order to correct this, please let me know if the installed app will need a reboot of the server to take affect. I have to schedule down time for that.

    Thanks ALL!
