Puzzled by installation error.

I have tried installed several times the SQL Server 2005 Express (Standard or Advanced Services) on my XP SP2 system and all failed.

The error messages are all about the Secure Socket Layer certificate and provider, either cannot find, create valid SSL certificate or the authentication provider is not trust (actually I don't know any of this and where to find them). I am learning at home the SQL Server and not going to do a website. Why I need a SSL? Or if it is really necessary, how do I obtained one?

I installed IIS (supposedly 5.0 since I have XP SP2), is this related? How to install without IIS?

Or do I need a Server OS?

Turn of the SSL on the default website (where Reporting Service will be installed) and you should be able to install the whole thing easily. Afterwards you can turn on SSL again on the default website.

Hi All,
we are building a portal that will include RS inside DNN3.1+. I see we
can just include the address in the IFRAM control but we then need
something to control parameters etc...we read the article below to find
this out...
What we are looking for is to have good control over things like
parameter selection and placement of paramters on the page...we have
cascading dependent prompts and we want the related prompts on the same
line etc...we are told we cannot do this in just the standard web
interface....
So we are looking around for people who have done DNN 3.1+ and RS..
We also posted to DNN forums and have had one hopeful answer so
far..but we thought we would ask around!!

Though I am told that it is possible to integrate better charts from
Dundas even in the 2000 release....and it does not look like this site
does that yet....but we are learning... :-)

thanks for the pointer to webharpoon...I did see it earlier but I am
not sure how it might help me so much with report services....from my
reading of the functionality it will help me get content from report
services but it looks like it will just pull back RS reports rather
like an iframe.....of course, being a newbie in this area I might be
misunderstanding....
Is it able to do more with RS than just bring back the report content
similar to an iframe?

If we own two standard edition SQL Server licenses that we can use for Report Services and a SQL Server running on another server, how does the report server recognize I have a valid license? The setup doesn't ask for any sort of license key... we don't want to install SQL server on our actual report server.
Also, how do I buy Report Services Standard Edition? I have an MSDN Universal subscription and have downloaded the developer edition, but it's time for me to use this tool in production.

I'm not sure if RS really validates any licensing information. but the
license is the Microsoft document.

Publishing reports to different versions

I have Visual Studio 2005 and Reporting Services 2005 on my client development machine.

I want to publish the reports to an SQL Server 2000 with Reporting Services 2000 server, is this possible?

I get the following error message:

The report definition is not valid. Please verify that the report definition uses the current report definition namespace (i.e. ‘http://schemas.microsoft.com/sqlserver/reporting/2003/10/reportdefinition’). (rsNotACurrentReportDefinition) Get Online Help

Unfortunately, you will not be able to use the 2005 report designer to publish directly to a 2000 report server. This is due to the fact that the RDL's (Report Definitions) created are different between Report Server versions. You can however use the 2000 report designer to publish to a 2005 server, as it support auto-upgrade of the reports.

Publishing OLAP based Pivotables from Excel

Hi

I want to publish an OLAP based pivottables from Excel to a HTML file using Office web componets.

I have a server with SQL Analysis Services 2005 cubes and I can browse the cube from my desktop in Excel 2003 Pivottables.

When I publish the Pivottable with Pivottable interactivity I get an error in the browser:

The query could not be processed

- An error was encountered in the transport layer

- The peer prematurely closed the connection

In the Pivottable I have set 'Save password' in properties.

Any suggestions ?

I'm having the same error msg and problem to access SSAS 2005 cube over http at client machine.

This doesn't happen if you work in server (with Sql Server 2005 and web server installed).

I solved this for me.

The following is done by my app:

1) Connect to the server to access the existing AS databases and their cubes

2) make a connectionstring that is later on passed to the pivottable control (named opData here):

.opData.ConnectionString = sConnString
.opData.DataMember = .coCUBE_NAME
When building the sConnString you have to use a named user (in the format domain\username) with his password to be able to display the data of the remote machine

Such a list would help me avoid asking if a non-existent feature has been
implemented and (maybe) give me some idea of when a particular desirable

folks making the decisions and are also logged into an internal database so
we can track them. You probably won't get a personal response, just an

Publish the cubes on the web portal

Hi all,
Is there the ability of publishing the cubes (which is built from an Analysis Services Project) on the web portal?
The purpose of this action is to let the BI users to do the analysis directly on the web portal.
The BI users can change the measure, slide and dice data, change the dimension (just like what you've done with the Analysis Services).

One of the options:

You can enable HTTP access to Analysis Services 2005 and let you users to access Analysis Services directly.

Publish A Report Services Report to SharePoint

OK... I'm running out of things to try.

I have SQL Server 2005 SP2 installed and Reporting Services Addin configured. I am trying to publish a report from BIDS to SharePoint... but a box continues to pop up asking me for credencials.

What am I doing wrong? I have reviewed all the web.config files as per an earlier post referenced, but I only see one entry in the config file for the location tag. However, I did see this tag in two config files... not certain if that is something I should be concerned with?

I'd really like to just get a sample report up on the Sharepoint Server so I can move forward.

Can anyone help?

You can always just upload the .RDL file directly into SharePoint using the SharePoint web UI. When RS integrates with SharePoint, we tell SharePoint to handle .RDL files as Report Server items, and it doesn't really matter whether they get into SharePoint through Report Designer, or through SharePoint web UI.

I'm afraid I can't help with the Report Designer issue. I'll pass this on to someone who might know about it.

It does have one entry for location path=" _vti_bin...." as previously mentioned, a number of the web config files have this entry in it... but only once per file.

And just to clarify... I am using BIDS trying to deploy the report. The version of Visual Studio is: 8.0.50727.42.

Well... actually I had manually created one in SharePoint in another library, but subsequently deleted it. The report still runs?|||Actually... I'll answer my own question... the first report used a custom data source... so that is why it worked. The second used a shared data source... it failed until I created the shared datasource|||

PTS 9 redistributable location in RTM release?

Hi,

For some reason, I am unable to find the PTS installer for Analysis Services 9.0 OLE DB Provider in the RTM release.

Where can I find this? I need to provide this driver to my Excel users.

When I try to use the pts9 driver I have got from Sept CTP, I get this error when trying to refresh the Excel cube:

Errors n Network layers. Error Code 0xc10D00008 External Code 0x0000000

I know there are a couple of limitations in SQL2000.

I did not try with SQL2005 however, watch for things like no more than something like 14000 members or so will be displayed in a page field.

This is annoying because if your list is let say 15000, you will just not see the last 1000 members.

I am sure there are also others limitations like the number of members that can be displayed in the Row area and the numbers of dimensions you can show in the row area.

It would be nice to have someone from Microsoft letting us know what are the exact limitatons when using PTS9 and Excel 2003. It would also be nice to have a list of features available in a local pivot table and not available in a PTS version of a pivot.

It would also be nice to know what are the limitations of the "Offline cube" wizard. I was never able to get anything useful out of this wizard nor able to script it. It is not letting you define complex offline cubes.

Let's not confuse PTS with Excel Pivot Tables - they're not the same thing! To quote from the link given earlier in this thread:
