Is there a published wish-list or a prioritised "future features" list for
Reporting Services?
Such a list would help me avoid asking if a non-existent feature has been
implemented and (maybe) give me some idea of when a particular desirable
feature may become available...

Then is this the appropriate forum to "make a wish"?
1. Support for more CSS properties in RDL (background-attachment for
background images would be helpful)
2. More reliable column name discovery in the dataset designer when using
stored procedures (I want to reuse some stored procedures designed for
another application but they potentially return more than one data set and
the designer only identifies the column names of the first potential table
even after running the query with the correct parameters to select the right
data for the second potential table)
3. More rendering choices in the export report function. (RTF is high on my
list)

sqlwish@.microsoft.com. Those emails go directly into the mailboxes of the
folks making the decisions and are also logged into an internal database so
we can track them. You probably won't get a personal response, just an
automatic one, but these really are listened to and acted upon. Trust me.

Published tables locked
Hi,
I am using SQL 2000 standard edition. When i do a
snapshot replication, all the published tables are locked
while creating the snapshot. Result is i cannot do a
snapshot during work hours.
My understanding was that there is an improvement in SQL
Server 2000 where by tables do not get locked while
creating the snapshot.
Can someone throw some light on this.

Nonblocking snapshots are only available when you use transactional. Why?
I really don't know, but that is the restriction.

Published Reports in /ReportServer, not in /Reports
I can publish reports to http://myserver/ReportServer just fine, but
when I try to view them through http://myserver/Reports, nothing is
there...no folders, no reports, not even the ability to access the
security. Can you help me?Make sure you are not running Reports website in anonymous.
Also, read up on Roles in RS. You might need to logon as someone in the
adminstrators group (the local machine group). That group automatically is
in a role that will allow you to setup other users/groups into appropriate
roles. However, if you are anonymous then no matter how you log on you will
not have the rights to do this (because everyone is anonymous).

I am trying to supply input parameters to a report from an aspx page. I tried many methods , but none seem to be working.
Can anyone suggest how I can work with parameterized reports from code?
Moreover , Do I have to publish a report to be able to supply Report Parameters from the code?

sure what you are trying to do.
Are you using URL Access or the SOAP API? Supplying paramters to each is

This is what i think.
1) in your .aspx page, you would have a hyperlink or something that links to the targeted report Eg:
<a href="http://links.10026.com/?link=http://localhost/Reportserver?/report1¶m1=123" >Go to report1</a>
2) In report1.rdl, you would have created a parameter called param1.
3) You definitely need to publish your report. You do this through the report manager: upload.

On the report I have a parameter for the user to choose rather to see the
matrix subreport or not.

yes to view the matrix sub report, the main report is missing fields and
formatted incorrectly, if you select no on the parameter for viewing the
matrix sub report, the fields return on the main report but are still not
alligned correctly. None of the missing fields have any expressions to
control the visible property , only the matrix sub report. The matrix
subreport is several inches away from any of the fields that end up missing.
The fields that are missing are unbound textboxes used as labels.
I tried to delete the report from the report server and re-deploy but still
the same effect.
Why is the report manager different than the Visual Studio preview and

renderer. In RS 2005 it uses the same rendering engine as the server does.

I am looking for some published paper regarding database performance
tunning performance strategies. This is for academic purpose so it
needs not to be any commerical database specific. It will be even
better if the paper has some kind of methods to quantify/measure
performance. Has anyone come across with any interesting paper about
this?

My log file on the publisher for the published database, doesnt seem to
grow, its always around 1MB, teh log file settings are set to allow the
file to grow incrementally and everything else seems normal.
After some further investigations I came across an option that should
apparently be set to false ( Truncate Log on Checkpoint).
SELECT DATABASEPROPERTY ('Northwind', 'IsTruncLog')
after running this, I determined that is was in fact set to TRUE. In order
to change it to false, I need to run this procedure
SP_DBOPTION Northwind ,'trunc. log on chkpt.', false
by setting this to false, would this cause any problems with replication
(Merge Replication, with pull subscribers)?

publication database not listed
When I create new subscription there is nothing listed under SQL Server.
I configured Server for replication, then published myDatabase.
Then I wanted to subscribe to this database, but couldn't -
I ckick on Server's Name under tree and tha's it - nothing is shown under it
to pick from.
There is following message in event log:
The replication agent is not registered properly. Rerun SQL Server setup.
We have SQL Server 2000 with spk3 installed.
We have production databases on it and can not rerun installation.
Is there anyway to reconfigure the server or do something else?

Can you tell me exactly the steps you take to get this? IE, right click on
the publication, push new subscription, etc.
Then while you are doing this run profiler and ensure you capture all
errors. Then post the results back here.
There have been cases where replication stored procedures go missing. It is
unclear whether these procs where ever installed or if they were deleted
somehow.
Can you run the following in your master database?
select count(*) from sysobjects where type ='p' and report back here with
the count!

I configured Server for replication, then published myDatabase.
Then I wanted to subscribe to this database, but couldn't -
I ckick on Server's Name under tree and tha's it - nothing is shown under it
to pick from.
There is following message in event log:

Can you tell me exactly the steps you take to get this? IE, right click on
the publication, push new subscription, etc.
Then while you are doing this run profiler and ensure you capture all
errors. Then post the results back here.
There have been cases where replication stored procedures go missing. It is
unclear whether these procs where ever installed or if they were deleted
somehow.
Can you run the following in your master database?
select count(*) from sysobjects where type ='p' and report back here with
the count!
