Putting different reports in the Document Map
I am not sure if this is possible or not, but here it goes.
I currently have 3 different chart reports, say 1, 2, 3. The users of these
reports pick which report they would like to run from a drop down in the
application. The remaining parameters for all of the reports are all the
same, so the only difference is picking the report name itself.
A user came to me and asked if there was a way to generate all 3 of the
chart reports at the same time and just have the 3 report names in the
Document Map, so then they could go from chart to chart just by using the map.
I have one idea of making a new report with all 3 charts in it, but I am not
sure how I would just have the one displaying at a time, and then having the
Document Map with only the 3 chart names.
Does this make sense and are there any suggestions?
ThanksPlease check my posting on your other thread with the title "Charting and
the Document Map".

Pulling data across multiple tables.
LEFT JOIN seems like a possible solution, however, if a user has more than one membership status record, it is returning multiple results for that user (when I only want 1 result for that user).
Here is the code that I have so far.
SELECT Users.UserID FROM Users LEFT JOIN Payment ON Users.UserID = Payment.UserID AND Users.Age > 30 AND Payment.PaymentExpirationDate > '3/28/2004' ORDER BY Payment.MembershipNumber DESC, Users.LastActive DESC
Payment.MembershipNumber - INT Field. This is the membership status for the user, if the user has any membership records.
Users.LastActive - Date/Time Field. This is the recent active for the user.
The data is being returned right now is:
UserID
=====
3
8
12
12
12
9
9
1
... and so on, when it should look like ...
UserID
=====
3
8
12
9
1
I hope this makes sense. Thanks for your time.

Pull Replication Error 1069
week. This replication is subscribed to a NT group with 5 users.
When a user is trying to synchronize the data, it is giving the error
message 1069 and the service did not start due to a logon failure.
Any help is greatly appreciated to resolve this issue.
David,
please have a look at Neil's explanation:

(replication runs as a series of jobs implemented by the sql server agent).

Pull Merge constantly have all the same conflicts
Hello.
Let me describe first my replication setup:
- SQL Server 2005 SP1 (SP2 coming soon)
- Approximately 35 remote users (Salesrep laptop) using Pull Subscriptions
- Merge (Bi-Directional) (8 articles - tables only)
- Merge (Uni-Directional) (5 articles - tables only)
- Transactional (5 articles - tables only)
Users receive data based on their territory #, therefore they receive their customers sets of data. It happens that customer change from one territory to another but not frequently. When it happens, so far so good, the data is redirected to the new salesrep using the model we configured (Territory table with SUSER_NAME() to filter the data).
Ok, here's my problem. Since a while, I can see in the replication monitor that some users seems to log the same conflict again and again (Merge process). I mean, checking the history for many subscribers, there is always the same number in the "Conflict" colums.
As an example:
- Merge completed after processing 18 data change(s) (4 insert(s), 14 update(s), 0 delete(s), 31 conflict(s))
- Merge completed after processing 27 data change(s) (10 insert(s), 17 update(s), 0 delete(s), 31 conflict(s))
- Merge completed after processing 20 data change(s) (5 insert(s), 15 update(s), 0 delete(s), 31 conflict(s))
and so on...(Those are only 3 historical entries for a single subscriptions but there are many like that, always with the same count of conflict - vary per user). It appears to me that the same conflicts come over and over.
The thing is that if I decide to reinitialize a subscription, conflicts will disappear, therefore I know that it is not a process on the server that keeps changing the data; anyway, even if it was, changes would be applied on the subscription because the server always win in my setup.
Any idea what should I do with this? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
Can you use the conflict viewer to see what these conflicts are to see if they make sense to you?|||Woops, I feel like an idiot now
Thanks for opening my mind!

Publishing CR .rpt file into SSR
the SSR menu. Is there anyway to do this?

DougThere is nothing built into the product to convert crystal reports to RS

for you.

publishing a report with parameters
say if i have a report that takes 2 parameters, StartDate & EndDate. and i want to publish/deploy this report for other users to run. Will the user be prompted to enter the 2 dates when they attempt to run the report?
sorry for the "what if" type question. ive been asked to do a bit of research on SQL Reporting Services
Cheers,
Craig
This depends on the report setup and on the method of access.
By report setup I mean the parameter. You can configure these with defaults and hence the users won't need to select the values but will still have the option to change the defaults.
By method of access I mean whether you are using the report manager (or some equivalent method of URL access) or the ReportServerWebService.Render method. By using URL access you get the "out of the box" export toolbar and parameter toolbar. By using the web service you pass in the paramaeter values but do not get the mentioned toolbars.
Remember, parameter defaults can be query based so for dates this can be made to return a dynamic value such as the current date.

public server role
In exploring permissions that users have, I find that they all have VIEW ANY DATABASE permission which they inherit from the public server role. You can see this by selecting the Permissions page on the Server Properties dialog and highlighting "public". The permission shows as having been granted by sa. This is listed as a server role. However, it does not show in the list of server roles and I can't find any documentation for it (RTM BOL). Interestingly, if I revoke this permission (which is the only permission this role has), the public server role disappears from view. But I can subsequently regrant the permission with Transact-SQL in master and the role comes back.
I would like more information about this role. It seems to be sort of "secret".
When I revoke the permission, users can't see any databases except master and tempdb (both of which have active guest users) even though they have been granted access to other databases.
What I was trying to accomplish by changing this permission was to allow a user to see only those databases which they are allowed to use. But that does not seem to be possible.
Thanks for the help.
Sharon
All logins belong to the public server role. It's like the "Everyone" group in Windows. There is a bug filed against Management Studio for not displaying this role in the list of fixed server roles.
The VIEW ANY DATABASE permission is assigned to public for backward compatibility with SQL Server 2000.
Here are a couple of BOL articles that mention this role:
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms175892(SQL.90).aspx
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms187096(SQL.90).aspx
Thanks
Laurentiu
The role does not show in sp_helpsrvrole, either. I didn't have time to look for an appropriate catalog view, so there may be one that shows it.
Sharon
|||Catalogs show it: sys.server_principals.
You can see the permissions granted to it in sys.server_permissions.
Thanks
Laurentiu

public role membership
sp_helprolemember 'public'
show no results, even though through the gui you can see that all the users
have tat role?Jason,
Since 'public' is defined to always contain everyone with access to a
database, there is no specific assignment to make them role members. So
sp_helprolemember has no rows to read and report on.
FWIW, if I assign a Windows Group to be a role member, only the Windows
Group (but not the logins that are members of the Windows Group) are
reported on by sp_helprolemember.

Public Role

How does one assign default permissions for a user?

Every user in a database has, by default, the permissions granted to the
public role. So, you grant permissions to the user by granting permissions to
the public role. But ...
From BOL "A user receives the union of all the permissions granted, denied,
or revoked on an object, with any denied permissions taking precedence over
the same permissions granted or revoked at another level".

like to add that you might consider using user-defined roles instead of
public so that you can more granularly control security. Personally, I only
use the public role for default system catalog permissions.
Hope this helps.
